1st Draft of 2008-2009 Recommendations from Pastoral Care Commission (Gift Discernment Task) for roles at Avon and those to serve was placed in your mailbox (extras below). There are some roles still unfilled. If you have suggestions or interest, speak to a PCC member.
Pastoral Care Brochures - Mennonite Publishing House has printed a series of brochures on Pastoral Care issues called ‘Close to Home’. Topics include dealing with: depression, pornography, marital discord, eating disorders, anxiety. They are available for you to take from the literature rack.
Prayers: Joys & Requests…
Pray for Agape Fellowship in London who are in need of extra financial help. A suggested possibility is for 10 families to give an extra $100 and 20 families an extra $50. This would provide a donation of $2,000. Please contact Earl Martin or Erma Meadows in response to this request.
Please pray for our Leadership Team and other congregational leaders as they prepare for a planning retreat, Sept 5-7.

Keeping you connected…
September 5-7 is the annual “Building Community Retreat” for people with disabilities, their families and supporters at Hidden Acres Retreat Centre. Theme: Brokenness and Wholeness with Myron Steinman. Brochures and registration forms are posted beside the Youth Room. Volunteers are still needed!
Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp & Retreat Centre is seeking to fill the role of Hospitality Services/ Housekeeping beginning early September. This is a part-time paid position (20-30 hours per week). Registration forms to become a member of the Menno Singers Mass Choir performing Handel’s Messiah, Dec 13 with the K-W Symphony Orchestra are available beside the Youth Room. If interested, please take a copy.
Menno Singers will be leading another “hymn sing,” Sept 14, 7:00 pm at W-K United Mennonite Church. This is a time of congregational singing, exploring songs in the blue Hymnal: A Worship Book as well as in the German tradition, the Gesangbuch.
Opportunities in the Community…
Ontario Mennonite Music Camp will be presenting its final concert tonight, 7:00 pm at Breslau Mennonite Church. Come, enjoy and support the future musical leaders of our church. Light refreshments will follow. Freewill donation to support the running of the camp.
Chosen People Ministries invites you to A Messianic Bible Conference, “Worship Like David,” Sept 5-7 in Guelph. A poster with complete details is posted by the Youth Room.
Shalom Counselling Services, Waterloo is seeking applications for the position of Counsellor/Therapist (part-time - 20 hours/week). Complete details are posted beside the Youth Room.
