Mike Strathdee is a certified financial planner and stewardship consultant with Mennonite Foundation of Canada in Kitchener. Following the service, Mike will lead an adult Christian Ed class to watch some humorous video clips and learn more about the services MFC provides.

If you are willing to host Mike Strathdee, our guest speaker for June 8, please contact next week’s Worship Planner, Jeanine Clarke (519-272-2261).
The Avon Congregation will again cook and serve the vegetarian café at the MCC Relief Sale. We require help to cook the cold salads on Friday afternoon, May 30 at the church. Also we will need to make soups on Saturday morning at the sale and serve from 10:00 am until about 1:30 pm. If you are able to help, leave a message for Bernice Barratt (273-2955) or Grace Plett (271-8268)
My Group - Youth
- Wed. June 4 is the last Band Practice (6:30 pm) & Focus (7:30 pm) for this school year. A HUGE thanks to Chris N. for her gifts and leadership in this area over the last several weeks. Also thanks to Jerry and Lisa who have been a great support to the youth throughout the year.
- Keep your eyes on the bulletin and on your e-mail for events throughout the summer.
- For those attending the retreat June 7-8, please leave your signed consent form in Suzanne’s mailbox ASAP. Meet at the church by 8:00am Saturday, June 7. Don’t forget your money, and the items on your “what to bring” list!
- To the Congregation…Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support for our youth. Please continue to pray for them individually and as a group. The process of finding new leadership in this area continues.
Attention Junior Youth. Keep this date open for another year-end event: Games, swimming& campfire at the Dow farm, on Sunday, June 22. Let Marion Dow know at least two days before (519-348-4975), of any friends you wish to bring along. Any parents who wish to help with the driving please let Marion know( 519-348-4975).
SWAP Service Project - Tickets are still available for the Pork Barbecue fundraiser next Sunday, June 8, 4:30 pm at Hidden Acres. We would also appreciate volunteers to make a salad or dessert, as well as donations for a silent auction. Tickets and sign-up sheets are in the foyer.
Church Periodicals (Fall 2008 to 2009): A variety of periodicals, devotionals and weekly papers for all ages are made available by the church to families wishing to receive them. A sign up sheet and complete details are posted beside the Youth Room.
Jewels (55+) meeting Friday, June 6 at 5:00 pm in the 4th floor Common Room of Greenwood Court. Bring your favourite finger food and table game. Strawberries & shortcake will be provided!
Men’s Fellowship Breakfast. Meeting for breakfast at Arden Park, 8:30 am Saturday, June 14. Join us for a casual time of fellowship and a hardy breakfast. All men welcome. Invite a friend!
You are invited to join in a potluck Graduation Celebration for Joanne Rennick on June 14. Details are posted beside the Youth Room.
Prayers: Joys & Requests…
Please pray for the members of the Living Water Church in Borabu, Thailand where Pat & Rod Houmphan minister. On May 17 a new church building was dedicated. Pray that this building would strengthen the witness of this church which is the only Christian church in the region.

Community Meals Volunteers are invited to an appreciation pot luck Dessert Social, June 4, 7:00 pm at Avon. If attending, please notify the church office.

Relationship Renewal is the goal of the Mennonite & Brethren Marriage Encounter Weekend planned for The Future Inn in Cambridge, June 20-22. Registration forms are posted beside the Youth Room. Cost: $50.

Opportunities in the Community…
St. Marys Children’s Choir & Festival Youth Singers. The final Spring concert will be held today, 3 pm at St. Marys United Church. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets: $15 for adults; $10 for children under 10. Tickets available at the Gospel Lighthouse or by calling 519-284-8009.
